In a recent op-ed piece in the Dutch national newspaper de Volkskrant, REDRESS-researchers Frank Hendriks, Charlotte Wagenaar, Take Sipma and Ank Michels advise to learn from experiences elsewhere, such as recent hybrid participation processes in Ireland.
By combining the depth of a citizens’ assembly with the broad reach of a referendum, Ireland was able to implement new legislation on sensitive issues.
