On November 23 and 24, we had the pleasure of welcoming a substantial group of colleagues from Ghent to Tilburg. The research group led by Bram Verschuere focuses on citizen participation and democracy. Through a large-scale survey involving citizens, politicians, civil servants, and civil society, they examined the level of support for various forms of citizen participation. Subsequently, through qualitative case studies in various Flemish municipalities, they are investigating how different instruments function in practice. More information about the project can be found here.

During the meeting, we extensively exchanged findings and ideas through presentations and small-group discussions. Concrete ideas emerged for further collaboration, such as joint writing and ongoing knowledge exchange. Activities were also planned as part of the jointly led NIG colloquium, such as exchanges with other scholars and with Flemish and Dutch practitioners. More information about the NIG colloquium can be found here.
